"Indian Defense Minister, Manohar Parrikar is going to visit Hanoi in early June. He will discuss co-development and co-production of various defense equipment, including small arms and light weapons (SALW), missile, naval systems and munitions. New Delhi may offer Hanoi to acquire BrahMos cruise missiles jointly developed by Russia and India. Such proposal was sent to Hanoi about two years ago. It was declined due to several unresolved export issues," the source said.

BrahMos cruise missile is based on Russian P-800 Onyx/Yakhont missile (NATO reporting name: SS-N-26 Strobile).

Indian Armed Forces have received mobile land-based launchers for the BrahMos missiles. At present, BrahMos Aerospace company is developing submarine- and aircraft-based variants of the missile.

According to the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute`s (SIPRI) arms transfers database, BrahMos Aerospace Russian-Indian joint venture (JV) has produced 450 BrahMos cruise missiles in various configurations.
