Milex 2017: Belarus exhibits its upgraded version of the T-72A main battle tank | |||
Belarus’s 140th Repair Plant has upgraded the T-72A main battle tank to the T-72BME level, a spokesman for the plant told TASS at the MILEX 2017 international arms exhibition in Minsk.

"The upgraded version of the T-72A tank is designed both for internal and external customers. It has received an upgraded anti-tank missile fire control system, an external auxiliary propulsion unit and explosive reactive armor," the spokesman said. According to the spokesman, the T-72A main battle tank has been chosen as the basis for the upgrade.

The tank’s composite armor is 830mm thick. The tank also has Kontakt-1 explosive reactive armor at the hull front and the sides and slat armor in the rear. The tank also has a bustle rack behind its turret with Kontakt-1 explosive reactive armor.
The T-72BME tank retains the 125mm gun as a main weapon with an ammunition load of 44 rounds and a fire rate of 8 rounds per minute. The tank also has the 7.62mm PKT coaxial machinegun with an ammunition load of 2,000 rounds, 12.7mm NSVT large-caliber antiaircraft machinegun with an ammunition load of 300 rounds and eight 902B Tucha smoke dischargers. |

The tank has a speed of 70 km/h (43 mph) and endurance of 850 kilometers (528 miles) due to the tank’s main propulsion unit that is the V-84MS engine with a capacity of 840 hp. A self-contained diesel auxiliary propulsion unit is installed in the tank’s rear.
