Czech Republic $2 billion to acquire new tracked IFV infantry fighting vehicle.

According to the Defense News website, the Czech Defence Minister Martin Stropnicky has announced that the government was presented this week a plan to spend $5 billion to modernize the Czech Land Forces by 2026, including a $2 billion acquisition of at least 210 new infantry fighting vehicles.

Czech army would like to replace old fleet of BVP-2, a Soviet-made BMP-2 tracked IFV (Infantry Fighting Vehicle) produced under license in Czech Republic.

During the defense exhibition IDET, the International Defence and Security Technologies Fair which was held in Czech Republic in May 2017, four companies presented a tracked armoured vehicle to response to the new request of the Czech army including General Dynamics European Land Systems from United States with the ASCOD, BAE Systems from United Kingdom with the CV90, Rheinmetall from Germany with the Lynx and PSM (a joint venture of Rheinmetall Defense and KMW) from Germany with the Puma.

The Czech government should take a decision on the IFV procurement after the country’s forthcoming parliamentary election, which is scheduled to take place on Oct. 20 and 21.

The "ANO" Czech party vows to increase the Czech Republic’s defense spending to 2 percent of its gross domestic product by 2024. According to te party, the acquisition of new tracked combat vehicle is one of the most important significant investments that will be carried out in the coming years.
