Defense Industry of Iran unveils new radar systems for military and civilian airports.
Iran has unveiled 12 advanced defense projects and products in the areas of radar systems and air transportation designed and manufactured by Iranian experts. These new equipment were unveiled in a ceremony on Thursday, April 20, 2017 during a visit to the southern city of Shiraz by Iranian President Hassan Rouhani.

The projects and products included reconnaissance radar systems of different ranges, landing and navigation systems for military and civilian airports, terrestrial navigation systems and production of smart weapons.

Iran's military industry manufactures various types of arms and military equipment. According to Iranian officials, the country sold $100 million worth of military equipment in 2003. and as of 2006 had exported weapons to 57 countries. Iran's military industry, under the command of Iran's Ministry of Defense, is composed of the following main components.

Iran has in recent years made great headways in manufacturing a broad range of military equipment, including air defense systems.

Tehran launched an arms development program during the 1980-88 Iraqi imposed war on Iran to compensate for a US weapons embargo. Since 1992, Iran has produced its own tanks, armored personnel carriers, missiles and fighter planes.
Yet, Iranian officials have always stressed that the country's military and arms programs serve defensive purposes and should not be perceived as a threat to any other country.
