First airdrop tests of new BMD-4M vehicle in Russia | |||
Several latest BMD-4M vehicles with a maximum payload were for the first time simultaneously airdropped in Ryazan region during government acceptance tests of new landing gear, the press service of the Russian Defense Ministry said.

"They were paradropped from an Il-76 airlifter from an altitude of close to 800 meters. The latest multi-dome parachute with a total space of close to 4 thousand square meters ensured a safe descent and touch-down of combat vehicles," it said.
BMD-4M were prepared for the airdrop on the base of the Tula airborne unit in Ryazan and loaded on Il-76 at Dyagilevo airfield jointly with experts of the Russian Aerospace Forces. After landing and unlashing of the vehicles the servicemen and experts tested their running capabilities and the state of armaments. There will be over 20 more airdrops of BMD-4M. The BMD-4M combat airborne vehicle (codename Sadovnitsa) is a heavily upgraded variant of the BMD-4 airborne IFV. It has a new hull, engine, running gear and other units. The vehicle is equipped with the Bakhcha-U turreted fighting module comprising a 100mm main armament, a 30mm coaxial automatic gun and a machinegun. |
