The NAMER is an Israeli-made APC based on the Merkava MBT (Main Battle Tank) chassis . The Namer was developed by the Israeli Ordnance Corps.

The new NAMER IFV is fitted with an unmanned turret armed with one 30mm automatic cannon. According to Israeli military sources, the same turret will be fitted on the Israeli-made EITAN 8x8 armoured vehicle.

According to the video released by the Israeli Ministry of Defense, the Namer IFV has recently begun the first series of tests including mobility and firing tests.

The Brigadier General Baruch Matzliah, Head of the Tank Program Administration said , "the new NAMER IFV with 30mm automatic cannon will offer more fire power for the infantry unit". He added, "The new NAMER IFV with the 30mm cannon APC will provides a better response to urban combat operations".

Our first analysis of the NAMER IFV shows that the turret is fitted with the TROPHY which is a military active protection system (APS) for combat vehicles. The Trophy is already installed to the latest version of the Merkava IV MBT.

The TROPHY is designed and manufactured by the Israeli Company Rafael, it combines an Hostile Fire Detection (HFD) and Active Protection System (APS) which is available in two main configurations: TROPHY HV (Heavy Vehicle) and TROPHY MV (Medium Vehicle). The Trophy intercepts and destroys incoming missiles and rockets with a shotgun-like blast.
