"I hope that today the Uralvagonzavod management will confirm that 2019 is already the beginning of the Armata’s operational evaluation, that is, the tank will go to military proving grounds rather than industrial testing ranges, and then into production," the deputy chairman of the government said.

According to Rogozin, while touring the production facilities the participants of the meeting noted that the T-72 tank, developed in the 1970s, was still the basic vehicle for the ground forces and would continue to be in service after a unique upgrade being carried out by Uralvagonzavod. In this regard, the Deputy Prime Minister suggested that the Armata tank in the future would show good performance during its operation in the Armed Forces. "I hope that the Armata, a unique modular platform, will also be in service for dozens of years of," he said.

The Armata is a heavy common platform, around which the Uralvagonzavod Corporation has developed the T-14 tank, the T-15 heavy infantry fighting vehicle and T-16 armored repair and recovery vehicle. It is expected that other vehicles will also be developed around the Armata, in particular a transporter/loader, a minelayer and a bridgelayer.
