Russia in final talks with Turkey for the delivery of S-400 air defense missile systems.
Russia is currently in talks with Turkey to sell S-400 air defense missile systems but concrete agreements have not been reached yet, Russian Deputy Defense Minister Alexander Fomin said.

"No air defense systems are being delivered to Turkey. Talks are under way. They are in progress but there are no supplies," Fomin said.

"The delivery will be possible only if agreements are reached. However, there have been no such agreements yet," he added.

Earlier, CEO of Russia’s state hi-tech corporation Rostec Sergei Chemezov said that Turkey had shown interest in the Russian-made S-400 (NATO reporting name: SA-21 Growler) air defense missile system and the talks on its potential deliveries were under way.

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said that the talks between Russia and Turkey on the delivery of S-400 systems were going smoothly.

As Turkey’s NTV channel reported, the Russian and Turkish presidents may discuss the issue during a meeting of the Russian-Turkish High-Level Cooperation Council in March.

The 2013 tender for a new air defense system, in which Russia’s S-400 system competed with US-made Patriot PAC-3, European SAMP/T Aster 30 and China’s FD-2000 systems – the export version of HQ-9 – was won by the Chinese bid. the deal was cancelled in 2015 after a complaint from NATO memebers.

According a Reuters news published in November 2016, Turkey was in talks with Russia on the potential purchase of S-400 air defense missile system, said the Turkish Defence Minister Fikri Isik.

The S-400 Triumph SA-21 is a long range surface-to-air missile defene systems produced by the Russian Company Almaz-Antey.The S-400 Trumph is intended to engage, ECM, radar-picket, director area, reconnaissance, strategic and tactical aircraft, tactical and theatre ballistic missiles, medium-range ballistic missiles and other current and future air attack assets at a maximum range of 400 km.
