"Talks go on with the Belarus party over implementation of a document signed in 2015," Vorobyova said. Previously, a source told TASS that Russia would supply Belarus with thirty-two BTR-82A armored personnel carriers. A relevant agreement had been signed at the Russia Arms Expo exhibition in 2015. A source at the Belarus armed forces confirmed the fact of contract signing, without specifying the value of the deal. Following the signing, Sergey Simonenko, the then first deputy head of the Belarus armed forces armament procurement department, specified that the machines were due to enter into service with the country’s army in 2016.
The BTR-82A armored personnel carrier differs from its predecessors in having an improved protection and increased fire power plus an air conditioning system. The vehicle is armed with 2A72 automatic cannon and caliber 7.62 mm PKT machinegun. The APC maximum highway speed is 80 km/h, and 10 km/h when floating. |
