A look ahead to DSEI 2019.
At a time of increasingly complex challenges and global uncertainty, military allies are collaborating to protect mutual strategic interests and maintain robust defence and security capabilities. Where traditionally defence ministries would seek to support their requirements internally, they now look much further afield to encourage knowledge and skills transfer, and help grow their industry, economy and resources.
A clear example of how nations are seeking to collaborate to protect and maintain mutual defence interests is evidenced by the Defence and Security Cooperation Treaty in 2010. This saw the UK and France commit to a unique military partnership which promoted interdependence, industrial and technological collaboration, the sharing and pooling of equipment, development of joint facilities and access to each other’s defence markets. French and British diplomats have confirmed that this bilateral military agreement will continue, after Brexit and beyond.
Defence and Security Equipment International (DSEI) exhibition and conference is a key enabler for strategic cooperation on the global stage. The event brings together the entire defence and security supply chain to collectively showcase the latest technology and expertise from this most innovative sector. DSEI proudly hosts official delegations of senior military representatives from traditional and emerging defence and security markets. This includes VIP representation from across Europe, as well as the Middle and Far East, where new opportunities are developing in maturing defence forces. These VIP visitors use DSEI as unique opportunity to do business and network with the defence and security community.
Among the 1600 exhibitors which come together for the event, DSEI plays host to over 40 international pavilions, each promoting a regional hub of defence and security ingenuity. France continues to have a strong presence at DSEI, last year it hosted 24 companies in its national pavilion, while ten individual French companies also took a stand at the flagship event. French companies that have already confirmed for DSEI 2019 include: Texelis; Vitec; Laulhere; Safran Electronics & Defense; Serapid; and Ixblue SAS.
Renewed focus on the Land environment
The recent shift in military focus to threats from Russia and China has led several leaders to address what US Defense Secretary Jim Mattis calls “a great powers land war”. It is thought that the Czech Republic, Slovenia, Australia and the UK will now be seeking to revamp their equipment portfolio – from land vehicles and rotary wing platforms to communications and soldier technology.
One of DSEI’s five defence capability Zones, the dedicated Land Zone and Static Display area features the latest military vehicles, as well as a comprehensive range of specialist equipment designed for and deployed with global ground forces. Visitors to the Land Zone at DSEI 2019 can expect to see the most recent technology from companies such as: ThyssenKrupp Bilstein; Hesco Bastion; Avon Protection Systems; Richmond Defence Systems; and Supacat.
The DSEI 2019 seminar programme will also provide an opportunity to hear world leading experts examine the latest government policies, army strategies and capabilities which influence the configuration of modern warfare on the ground.
Over the coming months further details will be disclosed about the conference and seminar programme, please visit www.DSEI.co.uk for more information.
DSEI takes places 10 – 13 September 2019 at ExCeL London, the UK’s premier event space.
