"One bid was solicited with one bid received. Work locations and funding will be determined with each order, with an estimated completion date of Aug. 15, 2022. U.S. Army Contracting Command, Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland, is the contracting activity," the Pentagon added.

The HMDS is produced by Chemring US subsidiary, Non-Intrusive Inspection Technology, Inc. (“NIITEK”), based in Sterling and Charlottesville Virginia.

The high performance VISOR combat proven ground penetrating radar (GPR) forms the heart of the Husky Mounted Detection System (HMDS). The HMDS GPR sensor detects metallic and non-metallic mines, improvised explosive devices (IED), and other buried explosive hazards providing unprecedented performance in the automatic detection, recognition, and precision marking of buried threats. The GPR technology on the HMDS combines advanced real-time Automatic Target Recognition (ATR) algorithms; integrated GPR and electromagnetic interference (EMI) sensors; global positioning system (GPS); recordable missions for after action review functions and analysis; automatic precision marking; and user friendly software. The technology was successfully deployed in combat in Afghanistan with the U.S. and its allies.

The U.S. Army, U.S. Marine Corps, Canada, Australia, Spain, Turkey, and Italy, Angola, Cambodia, and other nations around the world use the HMDS to save lives every day--both soldier and civilian. HMDS is ruggedized and logistically supportable package.

Chemring is an international leader in energetic material products and defensive countermeasures. NIITEK, which was acquired by Chemring in December 2008, is the leading US producer of vehicle-mounted Ground Penetrating Radar ("GPR") systems. NIITEK's GPR systems are at the leading edge of mine detection technology and are currently being used by US forces to protect their soldiers on the ground.
