Currently, 54 Condor UR-425 are in service with the Uruguayan Army. The vehicle was designed by the German Company Thyssen-Henschel of Germany and manufactured by Henschel Wehrtechnik GmbH. It is a successor to the UR-416 wheeled 4x4 APC (Armored Personnel Carrier).
The hull of the Condor is made of all-welded armored steel providing protection against the firing of small arms 7.62 mm armour-piercing rounds and 5.56 mm ball-type rounds, as well as artillery shell splinters and anti-personnel mines.
The Condor APC (Armored Personnel Carrier) variant has a crew of two including driver and commander and can accommodate 12 infantrymen. The commander sits behind the driver facing the center of the vehicle, with a single-piece hatch cover. The Condor has doors in both sides and the rear allowing rapid deployment of the crew. Firing ports in the hull sides and rear door allows some of the troops to fire their weapons from within the vehicle.
In the Uruguayan Army, the vehicle is fitted with a manual one-man open-top turret which is armed with one 7.62mm machine gun.
The Condor is powered by a Mercedes-Benz OM 352A 6-cylinder supercharged water-cooled diesel developing 168 hp. at 2,800 rpm. It can run at a maximum road speed of 100 km with a maximum cruising range of 900 km. The vehicle is fully amphibious, propelled in the water at a maximum speed of 10 km/h thanks to a propeller mounted under the rear of the hull.
