The purpose of this military exercise is to enhance the Swedish and U.S. armies' capability for joint rapid operations. The main part of the exercise will be conducted at sea and in the air, primarily in the southern and central parts of the Baltic Sea, but some parts will also be conducted on land.
A couple of weeks ago, US troops and boats arrived in the town of Karlskrona to train navigation in the archipelago, together with Swedish units. The Swedish archipelago is complex and challenging, particularly in the autumn when the weather can result in strong winds and high waves. That is why it is important to conduct training before the actual exercise begins.
This weekend, more US units arrive in Sweden, together with the CV-22 B Osprey, which is a combination of an aircraft and a helicopter. They also need to train and familiarize themselves with the new environment and terrain ahead of the exercise. This means that there will be more air activity in the area around the Skaraborg Air Wing (F 7) in Såtenäs, where they will be deployed temporarily.
The military exercise has been planned for a long time and is part of bilateral cooperation between Sweden and the US. Particular consideration has been taken to the current situation due to the Covid-19 pandemic, and the exercise will be conducted in accordance with current guidelines.
