The Gorizontal-4000 cargo parachute system and special high-altitude airdropping systems were displayed for the first time during Army-2021, an international defense exhibition in Russia. One of the main novelties is a cargo parachute system being developed under the Parachute R&D work to airdrop the Taifun-VDV armored vehicle.
Russian company Technodinamika Group will complete the preliminary trials of the prototypes of the versatile cargo platform being developed under the Parachute R&D (Research and Development) work, including flight experiments, by the end of 2021. The Gorizontal-4000 controllable cargo parachute system is undergoing preliminary trials as well.
According to the press office of Technodinamika Group, the wing-type parachute has an automatic control system that controls parachute lines, changing the direction and flight speed. The system will allow landing at the assigned point with high accuracy, using the GLONASS and GPS satellite navigation systems. The system can be remotely controlled from the ground.
The Taifun-VDV is a family of 4×4 mine-protected wheeled armored vehicles designed and manufactured by The Russian Company Remdiesel, a subsidiary of Kamaz, a global leader in the manufacturing of military trucks. The vehicle was unveiled in Russia during the edition 2019 of the Army International Military and Technical Forum.
The Taifun-VDV is a 4x4 armored vehicle designed to be used as an armored personnel carrier for Russian airborne troops. It has a length of 6 m, a wide of 2.54 m, and a high of 2.4 m. It has a curb weight of 11,000 kg with a maximum payload of 2,000 kg and can accommodate up to 8 military personnel including crew and paratroopers.
The Taifun-VDV can be armed with different types of weapon systems but the standard vehicle is fitted with a one-man turret armed with one 30 mm 2A4 automatic cannon and one 7.62 mm PKTM coaxial machine gun. The hull of the vehicle provides protection against the firing of small arms and artillery shell splinters.
The Taifun-VDV is motorized with a 450 hp diesel engine coupled to a nine-speed gearbox. It can reach a maximum road speed of 130 km/h and a maximum cruising range of 1,000 km. It has two fuel tanks with a capacity of 180 liters each.
