The second battalion set of these state-of-the-art vehicles will reach Belarus within a month. It will go to the 6th mechanized brigade,” he told the STV television channel. According to Korol, the national army will also receive Russian-made multipurpose combat helicopters by mid-2022.

The first batch of new BTR-82A armored personnel carriers manufactured by the Russian company Arzamas Machine-Building Plant was delivered at the railway station of Ozerishche, Minsk, the Belarusian Defense Ministry told BelTA news agency last October. Most of these new BTR-82A APCs would be assigned to the 120th Independent Mechanized Brigade. Some would be handed over to the 72nd Joint Training Center and the Military Academy of Belarus. The agreement on this delivery of APCs was signed at the Russia Arms Expo 2015 show in Nizhny Tagil in September 2015. The Belarusian Defense Ministry confirmed the deal at the time but did not specify the number of vehicles earmarked for delivery.

The APCs were delivered as part of the plans to replace tracked armored vehicles of Belarusian mechanized infantry units with wheeled ones. This batch of BTR-82As is fitted with Belarusian communications systems made by OAO Agat-System, and Belarusian sights made by OAO Peleng.

In addition to the APCs Belarus received two armored recovery and repair vehicles BREM-K based on BTR-80 chassis. They will be handed over to the 120th and 6th independent mechanized brigades.

The second batch of armored personnel carriers BTR-82A out of a battalion complement is expected to arrive in November 2021.

The BTR-82A is an upgraded version of the BTR-80A wheeled armored vehicles. In December 2008, Russia's Military Industrial Company (MIC) was already testing the prototypes which were unveiled in December 2009. In April 2010, the Russian defense industry started to market the BTR-82 and BTR-82A as a modernization program for existing BTR-80 operators.
