Israel Aerospace Industries’ ELTA subsidiary has been awarded a contract by the British Ministry of Defence to deliver four Remote Patrol Vehicles (RPVs). Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) and Marlborough Communications Limited (MCL) were awarded a contract to deliver four autonomous combat vehicles to the United Kingdom to enhance the British Armed Forces' military capabilities, the companies announced on Wednesday, September 1, 2021

Citing the Israeli Newspaper website Globes, the RPVs, designed and manufactured by IAI’s ELTA Systems group, are robust, versatile multi-purpose/multi-mission platforms that support and complement troops on the ground and enhance their force protection in battlefield conditions. In addition to their intelligence, surveillance, target acquisition, and reconnaissance (ISTAR) capabilities, the RPVs can provide logistic support by carrying platoon equipment, supplying ammunition and extracting casualties. The RPVs can be operated in manual, remote or autonomous modes.

The design of the RPV is based on the Rex 4×4 UGV (Unmanned Ground Vehicle). It has a fully-loaded weight of 1,800 kg with a maximum payload of 550 kg. The UGV can be fitted with a remotely operated weapon station that can be armed with one 7.62mm machine gun. It can be used to conduct reconnaissance missions and can be also used as a logistic support vehicle, medical evacuation vehicle or to carry equipment of infantrymen.
