Lithuanian firm Ostara presents Diesel-electric hybrid solution.
According to information published by Ostara on September 7, 2021, the Lithuanian company seeks to use the potential of diesel fuel for innovative hybrid solutions. It intends to present a demonstrator of technologies used in the advanced hybrid side-by-side Krampus as early as this year, which can radically change understanding about light all-terrain-vehicles.

The Krampus project, currently being developed by Ostara's team of engineers and designers, have two engines, each with the power of 60 kW. With a diesel generator and fully charged batteries, the buggy will be able to cover a distance of up to 1,000 km, and with an electric battery alone and in silent mode – up to 200 km. The vehicle will be able to reach a speed of up to 120 km/h, which can ensure efficient communication and transportation in various conditions. The buggy is designed to carry two soldiers and up to 0.5 t of weight.
The Krampus will be the first vehicle of this kind to be able to operate in both hybrid and fully electric mode. This will provide flexibility and allow one to adapt to different circumstances and operating conditions when using a buggy. For example, when carrying out covert tasks, it will be possible to choose a fully electric mode that ensures completely quiet operation of the buggy. In hybrid mode, it will be possible to cover longer distances while ensuring the effective use of energy. In addition, the side-by-side generator runs on diesel fuel of any quality. This reduces the risk of fuel shortages and solves a number of practical issues.
Krampus also has another distinctive feature: the buggy is designed to run in autonomous mode. If necessary, the vehicle may be controlled at a distance or cover routes independently with the help of integrated artificial intelligence systems. As a result, the side-by-side vehicle will be suitable for logistics, fire support or intelligence operations in areas that are dangerous to people.
As necessary, it will also be possible to equip the buggy with the necessary tools and instruments to monitor the environment, measure pollution or other parameters. All of this will provide Krampus with extremely wide usability and versatility: it will be possible to use the vehicle in mountainous, swamp or desert areas and serve both rescuers and border guards or companies involved in resource extraction and logistics.
Technology readiness level 5 has currently been achieved. Testing of the system and sub-systems in different locations has begun.
