Rostec launches serial production of new ADS amphibious rifle.
High-Precision Weapons holding company (part of Rostec State Corporation) has begun mass production of the new dual-use ADS assault rifle. This was announced to TASS during the International Maritime Defense Show (IMDS-2021) by the head of the Central Design and Research Bureau of Sporting and Hunting Arms (TsKIB SOO, part of the High-Precision Weapons holding company), Alexander Starostin.

“Serial production of the specialized dual-medium rifle has already begun,” informed Starostin. As noted by Starostin, the ADS was modernized based on feedback received during trial operation. “Based on the results of the trial operation period, we made some changes to improve its handling,” added the head of TsKIB SOO.
The ADS is built according to the bullpup layout, which makes it shorter compared to traditional assault rifles with the same barrel length, provides a better balance, and also eliminates the need to fold or unfold the stock.
On land, the assault rifle can fire the entire range of conventional 5.45x39 mm cartridges. For firing underwater, TsKIB SOO has developed special PSP and PSP-UD cartridges with the same 5.45x39mm caliber. The rifle uses standard 30-round AK-74 magazines for both types of ammunition and is also equipped with a standard 40-mm under-barrel grenade launcher. It has a Picatinny rail for various types of scopes. A silencer can also be attached.
The ADS is assumed to replace the APS underwater rifle developed in the late 1970s.
