Russia upgrades Strelets reconnaissance system - Part 2.

Strelets interfaces with Russian reconnaissance lasers and foreign laser rangers, as well as close-reconnaissance radars. Information exchange protocols can link it with technical reconnaissance means by Ethernet, RS232, and USB interfaces.

Strelets comprises the basic set which combines reconnaissance, communication and control devices depending on the mission. It can be commander’s set 83T215I-6 with a personal computer or 83T215I-7 with a laser ranger. The former provides photo and video shooting of the targets and transmits the images to the commander. The personal computer makes the necessary calculations for decision-making.

The radio operator can interface with a satellite communication station or ultra-short-wave radio station. Reconnaissance teams can have the basic set with close-reconnaissance radar.

Reconnaissance teams with Strelets can obtain and transmit information to the command in real-time, as well as to weapons right after target detection. The commander can also obtain information from other sources, such as small drones, portable thermal imagers, digital sights, nuclear reconnaissance devices, mine detectors, and signaling equipment. Interfaced with laser target markers, artillery and aviation can engage precision weapons.

The interaction of drones with Strelets expands the capabilities of commandos in hostile rear areas.

The weak point of Strelets is the batteries. One set can operate without recharging for 12 hours. The time of the mission actually depends on the number of batteries a group can carry. Naturally, in a local conflict, the group can be evacuated to the permanent deployment place for rest and battery recharging. However, it is problematic to do in a global conflict.
