Citing information from the official website “A Gift for Putin”, the amount of 1.2 million would have been collected in just a few months to provide T-72 main battle tanks to Ukraine as well as rockets for RM-70 rocket launchers, 152mm rounds for D-30 and D-20 towed guns and 120mm ammunition.

The T-72 Avenger is a modernization of the Soviet-made T-72M1 which was in service with the Czech army. According to open source information, the Czech army would still have 89 T-72 tanks in store.

The T-72 Avenger keeps the original main armament of the T-72M1 that consists of one 125mm 2A46 gun which can fire armor-piercing fin-stabilized discarding sabot (APFSDS), high-explosive anti-tank (HEAT), and high-explosive fragmentation (HEF) projectiles. The ammunition for the 2A46 gun is in two pieces including the projectile is loaded first, followed by a separate propellant charge. It can also fire the anti-tank guided missile 9M119M Reflex with a maximum firing range of 5,000 m.

The T-72 Avenger includes several improvements in terms of firepower, protection, and communication. The tank is equipped with a new night vision system that can work in passive mode with a range of up to 4 km.

The turret and the hull of the T-72 Avenger is fitted with a new ERA (Explosive Reactive Armor) offering more protection against anti-tank guided missiles. The ERA armor is used for the protection of tanks against antitank threats namely, High Explosive Anti Tank (HEAT) and Kinetic Energy ammunition. Reactive armor is intended to counteract anti-tank munitions that work by piercing the armor and then either kill the crew inside, disable vital mechanical systems, or create spalling that disables the crew — or all three.

In terms of communication, the T-72 Avenger is fitted with a modern radio station and intercom able to withstand electronic warfare attacks. The tank is also equipped with GPS navigation system able to transmit data and GPS coordinates.
