According to the company’s website, the Mammoth is currently still in the concept phase. The future 8.8-ton vehicle is based on the proven Groundforce platform, which serves, among other things, as the basis for the lighter Air Transportable Tactical Vehicle (ATTV) vehicle class introduced in the Dutch Special Forces in 2017 under the name Versatile Expeditionary Commando Tactial Off Road (VECTOR).
Like on the VECTOR, the core of the Mammoth is the central spine chassis, which houses the entire drive train and supports the axles and superstructure. In the closed design with standard profiles made of special steel, the sensitive vehicle components are protected against bullets and blasts. According to the manufacturer, the stability of the central frame allows a largely free configuration of the vehicle according to mission requirements. The cabin can therefore be developed independently of the chassis.
Similar to the ATTV platform, which weighs less than half as much, the vehicle will be all-wheel drive with front-axle, center-axle and rear-axle differentials, as well as four-wheel steering, resulting in a turning circle of only 12.5 meters for the approximately 5.6-meter-long vehicle. However, the powertrain will be significantly more powerful than on the ATTV, and larger 20-inch tires (335/80 R20) will also be used, Waldemar Geiger reports.
