The weight of the AbramsX has been reduced compared to the previous generation of Abrams tanks to improve mobility and transportability, delivering the same tactical range as the M1A2 Abrams with 50% less fuel consumption.
The AbramsX's hybrid power pack supports the U.S. Army's climate and electrification strategies, enhances silent watch capability and even allows for some silent mobility. With a reduced crew size and AI-enabled lethality, survivability, mobility, manned/unmanned teaming (MUM-T) and autonomous capabilities, AbramsX can be a key node in lethal battlefield networks and serve as a bridge from Abrams SEPv3 and SEPv4 for the future tank.
According to the picture released by General Dynamics, the AbramsX has a new design and is equipped with a new armor package mounted around the hull and the turret. Two hatches are available at the front of the hull, and the concept of the AbramsX could be similar to the French EMBT of the German KF51 tanks.
Citing information published on "The Drive" website, the AbramsX could be armed with the new XM360 120mm which was developed by the U.S. Army Research, Development, and Engineering Center. The gun will be able to fire new ammunition MRM (Mid-Range Munitions), AMP (Advanced Multi-Purpose), and AKE (Advanced Kinetic Energy).
The roof of the turret of the AbramX is fitted with a remotely operated weapon station which seems to be armed with one 30mm automatic cannon and one coaxial machine gun mounted to the right side. It seems that the tank is also fitted with new sights and a fire control system using panoramic vision systems for the commander and the gunner.
