The Indian capability to detect and destroy hostile fighter jets, strategic bombers, missiles and drones at major distances will increase when a new set of S-400 is deployed along the northern borders with China in the coming 2-3 months, the newspaper said.
The second S-400 set is being delivered by warships and aircraft. The first set arrived in India last December and was deployed in the northeast to repel air threats from Pakistan and China. In April-May, India received simulators of the complex.
The contract to deliver five battalion sets of S-400 worth 5.43 billion dollars was signed in October 2018. S-400 is a Russian long- and medium-range air defense missile system. It is designed to hit air-launched weapons and reconnaissance means, including stealth aircraft, as well as other aerial targets amid intensive fire and electronic countermeasures. It has a range of 400 km and can destroy targets at an altitude of 30 km. The S-400 entered service in the Russian armed forces in 2007.
