The BM-120 was unveiled in December 2021, by the Iranian Ministry of Defense and Armed Forces Logistics. Two videos were released on the Internet showing two new precision-guided rocket artillery systems.

The BM-120 is based on a 6x6 truck chassis with two rows of three container rectangular launcher units, each able to fire one missile. According to Iranian military sources, the surface-to-surface missile could a small version of the Fateh-variant Iranian-made short-range ballistic missile. In firing position, the missile containers are elevated at 45° at the rear of the truck and all the firing operations can be performed from inside the truck cab.

Citing Iranian sources, the BM-120 missile is fitted with high-explosive fragmentation (HE-FRAG), penetration, or cluster warheads weighing 150 kg. It is guided by an inertial navigation system (INS) aided by a satellite navigation system allowing very high Probable Circular Error (CEP) of less than 30m.

According to technical features publish on the Iranian weapons export catalog, the BM-120 missile is able to reach targets with a range from 30 to 120 km. The six missiles can be launched at the same time but on different targets.

The BM-120 missile has a diameter of 368 mm and a length of 5,175 m. It has a total weight of 787 kg and can fly at a maximum speed of Mach 4.
