The purpose of the Krampus project is an off-road ATV (all-terrain vehicle) that will work on the basis of a hybrid engine. This will allow the operator to have a "silent mode" when the vehicle operates autonomously in silent or sleep modes. In the sleep mode, the operators of the Krampus ATV (either in the vehicle or from a remote position in the unmanned version) will be able to remain passively observing their surroundings for long periods of time, with the systems automatically activating when the target is spotted.
Ostara has completed its first technology demonstrator Krampus Mk I and is starting the launch of its ‘’Krampus Mk II’’ prototype development, which will set focus on an autonomous operational mode.
The hybrid diesel-electric propulsion system offers advantages in environments where quiet operation is essential, as well as in high air pressure areas such as mountain passes. The Krampus ATV is being designed for special, military or environmental services. It has high ground clearance and is being designed to drive up to 200 kilometers with one full battery charge at a maximum speed of 50-60 km/h.
Krampus ATV can use almost any type of diesel fuel, which solves many compatibility and logistical problems since it can use the same fuel as a farm tractor, a standard truck, a power generator or any other diesel-fueled equipment used in a military base.
