MOSCOW, April 27. /TASS-DEFENSE/. Roscosmos will build 46 Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBM), CEO of the space agency said: “There will be a total of 46 Sarmat missiles. They will be deployed in the silos which currently carry Voevoda ICBM,” he said.

Rogozin said flight trials of Sarmat would continue this year, but serial missiles are already produced for the first regiment of the Uzhur division in Krasnoyarsk region. The regiment is to be formed before autumn.
Sarmat will be able to hit targets at virtually unlimited distances in comparison with the Voevoda missile. “The Sarmat missile, compared to the Voevoda missile, is capable of hitting targets at virtually unlimited ranges,” Rogozin said. Sarmat will be much more powerful than other strategic weapons, including the American Minuteman-III missile, he said. “This is a missile that is much more powerful than other strategic weapons, including the Minuteman-III missile, which is in service in the United States both in terms of global reach and the power of warheads that can be delivered to the territory of an aggressor,” Rogozin said.
The technical capabilities make the rocket invulnerable to both existing and future US and NATO missile defense systems. “This is a huge success of our designers and engineers. We are very proud,” he added.
Russia successfully conducted the first test launch of a Sarmat ICBM from Plesetsk cosmodrome on April 20.
Sarmat ICBM has been developed by the Makeyev State Rocket Center (part of Roscosmos) and is manufactured at the Krasmash enterprise. Experts estimate RS-28 Sarmat is capable of delivering a MIRVed warhead weighing up to 10 tons to any point of the world both via the North and South Poles.
