The AMN-590951 was already in service with the Russian army and deployed in Ukraine to conduct combat operations. Indeed, in October 2022, the Ukrainian army announced the capture of one Russian army AMN-590951 multi-purpose armored vehicle during the battles in Kherson Oblast.
The war in Ukraine is a laboratory for the Russian defense industry to test these latest developments in military equipment. In recent days we have already announced the use of new Russian combat vehicles and combat systems in Ukraine such as the T-90M tank, BMPT Model 2017 fire support tracked armored vehicle, ISDM Zemledeliye Mine mine-laying system, TOR-M2DT and Buk-M3 air defense missile systems, Tornado-S MLRS 300mm Multiple Launch Rocket System and more.
The AMN-590951 was developed and designed based on the experience gained by Russian soldiers deployed in Syria. The vehicle is manufactured by the Russian company VPK-Ural. Particular effort has been made to protect the vehicle with additional armor mounted at the front of the vehicle as well as on the roof. The vehicle is also protected to withstand a blast of 6 kg of TNT explosion under the vehicle floor and the wheels.
The design of the AMN-590951 is standard for a modern wheeled armored vehicle with the engine at the front, crew in the middle, and troop's compartment at the rear. The vehicle has a combat weight of 14,500 kg with a maximum payload of 1,500 kg. It accommodates up to 9 military personnel including a driver, commander, gunner, and 6 infantrymen.
The roof of the vehicle is fitted with a one-man open-top turret with a shield on 360°. The turret can be armed with a 12.7mm heavy machine gun. The vehicle is powered by a Turbo Diesel engine developing 312 hp coupled to a five-speed mechanical transmission. The vehicle can run at a maximum speed of 90 km/ h with a maximum cruising range of up to 1,000 km.
