The NLAW order is placed within a framework agreement between FMV (Swedish Defense Materiel Administration) and the Swedish company Saab.
“We look forward to continuing to work closely with the Swedish defense forces and contributing to their anti-tank capability with our proven and trusted NLAW system,” says Görgen Johansson, head of Saab’s business area Dynamics.
The NLAW became one of the most popular anti-tank weapons in the world following the war in Ukraine where it is widely used by Ukrainian soldiers to destroy Russian army armored vehicles and tanks.
The NLAW, also named MBT LAW or RB 57 is a fire-and-forget, lightweight shoulder-fired, and disposable (single-use) line-of-sight (LOS) missile system, manufactured by the Swedish company SAAB Bofors Dynamics. The anti-tank missile weapon is in service with Finland, Indonesia, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Sweden, Switzerland, Ukraine, and the United Kingdom.
The NLAW is a man-portable anti-tank guided missile weapon system that can be used in open areas or confined-spaces to destroy armored vehicles or Main Battle Tanks (MBTs).
The NLAW missile has a length of 1.02 m and a weight of 12.5 kg. It is fitted with an armor-piercing warhead that can destroy heavily protected MBTs in a single shot. The effective range of the missile is from 20 to 600 meters or up to 400 meters for moving targets.
