The Terrex is a family of 8x8 armored vehicles fully designed, developed, and manufactured by the Defense Company ST Engineering based in Singapore. The Terrex 3 is the latest member in the Terrex family. A scale model of the vehicle was unveiled during the edition 2016 of Eurosatory International Defense Exhibition in Paris, France and it was shown for the first time during the DVD event in September 2016.
Built upon the successful Terrex 1 and Terrex 2 IFVs, Terrex 3 is a heavier variant with a higher payload and enhanced protection and was designed to meet the stringent operational requirements and experience gained on modern battlefields.
At Singapore Airshow 2020, ST Engineering demonstrates the integration of aerial and land drones on the Terrex 2. The Terrex combines hybrid electric drive and standard combustion engine offering the advantages to recharge the battery packs and all-electric components of the vehicle as well as drones mainly powered by battery packs.
Today, many defense companies have developed combat armored vehicles with the capability to integrate drones as UGV (Unmanned Ground Vehicles) or UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) both can be used to conduct reconnaissance missions.
Specifically, the aerial drone can increase military capabilities on the modern battlefield providing information about potential targets and increasing shooting capability while the UGV can be used to detect and destroy targets or conduct road reconnaissance missions to identify suspicious objects as mines or IEDs (Improvised Explosive Devices)
Both aerial and ground drones can be controlled from inside of the vehicle and under armor protection. The aerial drone can conduct operational missions day and night, with autonomous landing and takeoff ability.
