Turkey’s Zlikan military base near Bashiqa came under missile fire on Thursday, February 3. The Nineveh Organizations Center of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) told party media ten rockets were fired at the base at 3 am on Thursday, landing in the vicinity without causing damage or casualties, NRT TV reports. A group known as Ahrar (Free) Sinjar claimed responsibility for the attack. "We will return fire with fire, blood with blood,” the group said in a statement posted to social media.

A Mitsubishi Fuso civilian dump truck has been used to attack a Turkish military base on February 3 by firing 10 rockets from a multitube launcher skilfully dissimulated in the bottom of the dumpster, the truck being parked near Al-Mazen gas station. Hamas guerillas already used this kind of hidden MLRS from Palestinian territories to target Israel.

The dumpster of the truck used for the February 3 attack shows 17 tubes hidden in its bottom. The men who fired the rockets abandoned their truck, leaving indications about the basic system that includes a remote control by wire.

Turkey’s Zlikan airbase has come under repeated missile attacks. The country has about 40 military bases or posts in the Kurdistan Region.
