American Senate Plan $532 Million Budget to Modernize 53 M1A2 Abrams Main Battle Tank.
On July 27, 2023, the Senate planned a budget of $532 million to support the production of Abrams combat tanks. This funding is part of a $3.6 billion allocation for tracked military vehicles of the United States Army. The investment will be used to modernize 53 M1A2 Abrams tanks, contributing to the maintenance of the production line for these vehicles.

The Abrams M1A2 is undoubtedly one of the most iconic combat tanks in the world. Designed in the United States, it is used by several countries, including the United States itself, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait. Weighing 63,086 kg, this war machine offers a combination of advanced weaponry, armor, and equipment that makes it an indispensable asset for modern military operations.
Equipped with a 120 mm M256 smoothbore gun, the Abrams M1A2 is capable of firing high-velocity anti-tank shells. Additionally, it is fitted with a coaxial 7.62 mm M240 machine gun, a 12.7 mm M2 heavy machine gun, and another 7.62 mm M240 machine gun for close defense.
In terms of protection, the Abrams M1A2 is equipped with Chobham armor combined with second-generation depleted uranium armor. This composite protection system provides high resistance against enemy projectiles and shells.
The tank is equipped with a range of accessories and systems to enhance operational capabilities and crew safety. Among these features are a thermal viewer, NBC (Nuclear, Biological, Chemical) protection system, navigation unit, and a Computerized Fire Control Electronics Unit.
With a maximum speed of 68 km/h, the M1A2 tank is capable of rapid movement across all types of terrain, enabling it to adapt swiftly to changing situations on the battlefield. Its range of 425 km ensures an extended operational capability. Operated by a four-person crew consisting of the driver, gunner, loader, and tank commander, the Abrams M1A2 has dimensions of 7.92 m in length, 3.65 m in width, and 2.88 m in height.
