The move is part of ongoing efforts to bolster the air defense capabilities of the Union State, an entity consisting of Russia and Belarus. The press service emphasized the continuous commitment from both parties to enhance the combat prowess of Belarusian military formations and units.

Currently, there is an ongoing scheduled rotation of military units and subdivisions from the Russian component in the regional group of forces of Belarus and Russia.

Moreover, Belarus is witnessing the arrival of personnel, weapons, and hardware from the combined arms and tank formations of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. This development underscores the close military cooperation between the two countries and their joint commitment to strengthen their collective defense capabilities.

Russia and Belarus have a long-standing defense relationship, formalized through the Union State agreement. This political and economic confederation serves as a framework for extensive military cooperation between the two nations. They conduct joint military exercises and Russia has several military facilities on Belarusian territory. The delivery of Russian military equipment to Belarus, such as the S-400 air defense system, is part of this broader bilateral military cooperation aimed at enhancing collective defense capabilities and responding to perceived threats.

The S-400 air defense missile system is one of the world's most advanced long-range defense systems. Developed by Russia's Almaz Central Design Bureau in the 1990s, it has the capability to intercept and destroy airborne targets at a distance of up to 400 kilometers and can hit targets at altitudes up to 30 kilometers. The system is capable of tracking 100 targets simultaneously while being able to engage with up to 36 targets at the same time.

The S-400 is known for its enhanced capabilities over older systems, particularly its ability to counter stealth aircraft, ballistic missiles, and cruise missiles. It represents a significant upgrade to any country's air defense capabilities and is a testament to the strength of the defense relationship between Russia and Belarus.
