Although the first photo of the Striga was seen in the spring or summer of last year, there had been no visual confirmation of its active service until now. This gap has now been filled, and the presence of the Striga on the battlefield is a tangible demonstration of the evolution of the Ukrainian arsenal.

The BM-21 MT Striga, originating from the Czech Republic, represents a significant advancement in the technology of multiple-launch rocket systems (MLRS). Although its service entry is presumed to be in the year 2023, the technical specifications of the Striga attest to its potential on the battlefield.

With a crew of three to four men, the Striga combines maneuverability and firepower. Weighing in at nearly 15 tons and measuring 7.38 meters in length, 2.55 meters in width, and approximately 2.73 meters in height, it is a relatively compact vehicle, considering its offensive capability.

It has 40 tubes of 122 mm, capable of launching rockets weighing 66.35 kg with a warhead of 18.4 kg. The maximum effective range of these rockets is 20 kilometers, allowing for the striking of targets without exposing the vehicle to direct counterattacks. The ability to discharge a full salvo in just 20 seconds is a major asset, enabling rapid saturation of a target area. Moreover, the system's reloading time is seven minutes to prepare a new salvo.

In terms of mobility, the Striga is powered by a Tatra T3C-928-8T diesel engine with 362 horsepower, giving it a maximum road speed of 90 km/h. With a range of about 1,000 kilometers, it can be deployed and repositioned across vast theaters of operations without the need for frequent refueling.

The maneuverability of the Striga is also noteworthy. It is capable of climbing gradients of 60% and side slopes of 45%, overcoming vertical steps up to 0.6 meters, crossing trenches of one meter, and fording watercourses up to 1.5 meters. These characteristics ensure that the Striga can be deployed across a wide variety of terrains, which is essential for military operations that require great tactical flexibility.

The arrival of the Striga in the Ukrainian arsenal is a notable development, but it remains to be seen how this artillery system will influence the balance of forces in the region.
