The Director of the Colombian Civil Defense, Martín Hernando Nieto Melo, notes the significance of the event, highlighting that Expodefensa 2023 offers a chance to present the institution's new vision, emphasizing human security, social justice, and sustainable development for all Colombians.
Organized by the Ministry of National Defense, Codaltec, Coges, and Corferias, Expodefensa 2023 involves over 200 exhibitors from 28 countries, covering more than 12,000 square meters of exhibition space. For the Colombian Civil Defense, this platform provides an ideal setting to present solutions addressing disaster risk management and environmental protection.
Acknowledging the connection between environmental concerns and disaster risk management, the Colombian Civil Defense has been engaged in risk reduction activities, focusing on maintaining strategic ecosystems across the national territory. Over the past five years, the institution implemented the "Bosque Naranja" (Orange Forest) program, aiming for carbon neutrality by offsetting CO² emissions through capture initiatives.
The institution works to protect and preserve species through controlled eradication strategies of invasive species that can disrupt ecosystems. Additionally, it safeguards species threatened by environmental or anthropic conditions, such as native stingless bees and African bees, crucial for pollination cycles in food reproduction and sustenance for agricultural production.
The Colombian Civil Defense plays a role in biodiversity protection throughout Colombia, conducting awareness and education activities in communities nationwide. Their efforts focus on emphasizing the importance of nature conservation and sustainable resource management, promoting responsible practices contributing to the long-term protection of ecosystems and species in Colombia.
