Since the 1970s, the Colombian army has adopted various camouflage patterns, starting with a duck hunter motif inspired by the American M1942, known as "Tigrillo". Following international trends in camouflage, it incorporated patterns such as the M81 forest camouflage in the 1990s and pixelated designs in 2006.

The "Chameleon Bicentennial" stands out from its predecessors through extensive research and innovative design. Initiated in late 2020, the project examined a million color combinations to produce prototypes suited for jungle and desert environments. Collaboration between designers, textile engineers, and biologists led to a pattern based on hexagons, inspired by amphibians and reptiles.

The initial testing of the uniform in July 2022 preceded its full deployment scheduled for December 2022 within the Colombian army. This advancement reflects Colombia's commitment to military modernization and underscores its adaptation to contemporary security challenges.

The introduction of the "Chameleon Bicentennial" camouflage at ExpoDefensa 2023 by the Colombian army symbolizes a significant advancement in military technology. This development not only enhances operational efficiency but also asserts the unique identity of the Colombian armed forces on the global stage.
