France establishes club for CAESAR self-propelled howitzer users.

| 2023

The CAESAR club was launched on November 14 at the camp of Canjuers by the French Ground Force (Armée de Terre), the DGA (Direction Générale de l'Armement) and KNDS. The aim of this club is to promote the CAESAR family and contribute to strengthening interoperability between the French Army and customer armies, as well as sharing operational topics, including maintenance, concerning this system. It will also provide useful feedback for the French Army and Nexter, a company of KNDS, with a view to developing the entire CAESAR family.

The ‘CAESAR club’ aims to bring together its different user countries and share feedback. Around the manufacturer, KNDS, the officialization in Canjuers gathered countries using the self-propelled howitzer: France (76), Thailand (6), Saudi Arabia (132), Indonesia (55), Czech Republic (62), Belgium (9 GN ordered) and Lithuania (18). And Ukraine for several months.

The aim is to bring together all armies equipped or in the process of being equipped to share operational experience feedback, for the purposes of improving the performance of the system and its use during future developments, and to promote interoperability". The first lessons drawn from the war in Ukraine are invaluable.

As A l'Avant-Garde recalls, in May 2022, Belgium and France signed a CaMo 2 contract for the acquisition of 9 CAESAr NG self-propelled howitzers with a joint training and integrated training component. The amount of the contract is 62 million euros with delivery planned for 2027. In June of the same year, Colonel Bernard Phaleg, head of the Plans and Policy Division within the Belgian Defense, announced to the members of Parliament during a hearing that, as part of the STAR plan, Belgium was going to order 18 to 19 additional CAESARs in addition to the first order.
