The work under this contract is slated to be conducted at Camp Taji, Iraq, a key location for Iraqi military operations. The projected completion date for these services is December 13, 2023, indicating a long-term commitment to the operational efficiency and maintenance of these critical military vehicles.

This contract modification is financed through the Fiscal 2022 Iraq Train and Equip funds, with the full amount of $15,992,597 being allocated at the time of the award. This funding is a testament to the ongoing support and collaboration between the United States and Iraq, particularly in enhancing the capabilities of the Iraqi military.

The U.S. Army Contracting Command, based in Detroit Arsenal, Michigan, is the overseeing body for this contract. Their involvement ensures that the project adheres to the highest standards of efficiency and effectiveness, aligning with both U.S. and Iraqi military objectives.

General Dynamics Land Systems' role in this project underscores the company's expertise in providing comprehensive support and maintenance services for advanced military vehicles. The M1A1SA tanks, a significant component of the Iraqi Army's armored forces, are expected to benefit greatly from this enhanced support, ensuring their readiness and reliability for various operational demands.

The Iraqi Army's main battle tank (MBT) inventory is a robust mix, currently comprising over 391 units. This includes approximately 100 M1A1 Abrams tanks, more than 168 T-72M/M1 tanks, around 50 T-55 tanks, and 73 T-90S tanks. The M1A1SA, a specialized variant of the M1A1 Abrams, is particularly noteworthy for its upgraded armor and advanced fire control systems, making it a formidable asset in the Iraqi Army's arsenal.

The M1A1SA (Situational Awareness) variant represents a significant upgrade over the basic M1A1 design, tailored specifically to meet the unique requirements of the Iraqi Army. These enhancements include improved armor protection, advanced ballistic computing, and a modernized targeting system. This variant ensures that the Iraqi Army is equipped with a tank that is not only powerful in terms of firepower but also superior in terms of battlefield awareness and survivability.
