Currently, the Bundeswehr (German army) operates 121 PzH 2000 howitzers, forming the backbone of the German army's artillery capabilities. As reported in the Military Balance 2022, these howitzers have proven to be critical assets, providing high-impact firepower with precision-guided capability on the modern battlefield.

The PzH 2000 is a 155mm self-propelled howitzer manufactured by KMW, known for its accuracy, extended range, and mobility. It is a robust tracked vehicle designed to deliver heavy artillery support while being able to maneuver effectively in diverse terrains, under all weather conditions.

Since its inception, the PzH 2000 has set the standard for self-propelled howitzers worldwide. Its 155mm gun, boasting an impressive maximum range of up to 40 kilometers using standard rounds and up to 60 kilometers with assisted projectiles, makes it a formidable presence on the battlefield.

Additionally, the PzH 2000 exhibits a remarkable firing rate, capable of delivering multiple rounds simultaneously on target (MRSI) using sophisticated fire-control technology. This ability to 'flood' an area with pinpoint artillery fire can prove decisive in both offensive and defensive operations.

From a mobility perspective, the PzH 2000 excels. Its tracked design allows for impressive off-road capabilities, and it possesses a speed that belies its size and weight. This combination of mobility and firepower ensures that it can keep pace with armored formations and provide effective fire support when and where it is needed most.

The PzH 2000 also boasts impressive defensive capabilities. The armored hull provides protection against small arms fire and shell splinters, while the NBC (Nuclear, Biological, and Chemical) defense system and automatic fire suppression system further enhance crew safety.

In summary, the PzH 2000 is a powerful, mobile, and versatile artillery platform. Its combination of range, firepower, and defensive capabilities make it a key asset for any modern army. The Bundeswehr's decision to invest in additional units is a testament to its operational success and its ongoing value in modern warfare.
