The Bergepanzer 2, also known as the Armored Recovery Vehicle (ARV), is a specialized armored vehicle designed to provide essential support in battlefield scenarios. Its primary purpose revolves around the intricate tasks of repairing, recovering, and maintaining damaged armored vehicles. The Bergepanzer's role is pivotal in swiftly restoring the mobility and operational efficiency of main battle tanks and other armored assets.

Central to the Bergepanzer's design is its utilization of a battle-tested chassis derived from main battle tanks, particularly the well-regarded Leopard 1 MBT (Main Battle Tank) but fitted with a new hull. This strategic foundation enables the Bergepanzer to capitalize on the proven attributes of these chassis, encompassing mobility, power, and durability, resulting in an adept platform for executing complex recovery operations within challenging and hostile environments.

The Bergepanzer 2 weighs 39,800 kg and has a crew of four. It is used for the recovery of damaged vehicles, towing disabled vehicles, changing vehicle components, and lifting complete vehicles weighing up to 20 tons. It can also carry a spare Leopard MBT power pack, perform dozing operations, and refuel and defuel other vehicles. Due to its versatility, the Bergepanzer 2 also serves as a support vehicle in battlefield operations, offering a comprehensive range of functionalities to maintain the mobility and efficiency of armored forces in various operational scenarios.

The Bergepanzer 2 is equipped with a dozer blade mounted at the front of the hull, a hydraulically operated crane on the right side of the hull which is pivoted at the front, a winch with a capacity of 35 tons which can be increased to 70 tons with a guide pulley, an electric wrench, and a welding system.

Since the onset of the conflict in Ukraine, Germany has delivered a range of essential military engineering capabilities to strengthen the nation's defense. These contributions encompass Mobile, Remote Controlled, and Protected Mine Clearing Systems for effective landmine clearance, Bridge-Laying Tanks BEAVER to facilitate critical crossings, Mobile and Protected Mine Clearing Systems Ahlmann to enhance minefield operations, Mine Clearing Tanks WISENT 1 specialized in detecting and eliminating landmines, along with Heavy and Medium Bridge Systems. These provisions underscore Germany's unwavering commitment to enhancing Ukraine's defense infrastructure and operational resilience.
