FN Herstal, a renowned Belgian arms manufacturer, has unveiled its latest innovation, the FN Smart ProtectoR®-303T, at Milipol 2023, an International Homeland Security and Safety Exhibition that takes place in Paris, France. This new product is built upon the proven FN 303® shoulder launcher, a long-standing intermediate force option used by numerous law enforcement, special units, and military forces worldwide. FN Herstal introduces this new intermediate force solution with the goal of maximum safety.

The FN 303® optimally combines safety, precision, and efficiency, representing the first level of a graduated and proportionate response to an unarmed threat. It is precise enough to engage a target while avoiding the head area, with projectiles that break upon impact to prevent penetration. The resulting impact is highly deterrent, akin to a baton strike delivered from a distance.

The FN Smart ProtectoR®-303T, available with an optional red dot sight (in an orange color variant), retains all the qualities of the FN 303® Tactical launcher and adds a significant new safety feature.

The unique innovation of the FN Smart ProtectoR®-303T lies in its integration of an electro-optical solution consisting of an onboard camera and image processing software that detects human heads in real time. If a projectile is likely to hit a head, the system provides an auditory and visual warning to the user and temporarily blocks firing. This technology significantly reduces the risk of serious and potentially irreversible injuries caused by accidental headshots.

The FN VictoR®-SP camera can record images during firing, providing valuable data for post-action analysis or judicial investigations. The battery lasts between 5 to 12 hours depending on usage and includes an automatic standby mode to reduce energy consumption. An external battery pack can be added for extended operations.

Finally, the FN Smart ProtectoR®-303T can be used as a training system for shooting fundamentals through a dedicated application. This app's interface allows users to visualize the impact point and barrel movement before and after each shot, highlighting areas for user improvement. Video recording can also be used to rehearse a pre-recorded scenario displayed on a screen.
