The KLTV was initially developed in collaboration with the South Korean Ministry of Defense to meet the specific needs of the South Korean armed forces. Official production began in June 2016, following its first appearance at the International Defense Exhibition and Conference (IDEX) in Abu Dhabi in 2015. The vehicle is currently in service with the South Korean army and other nations, such as Mali.
The KLTV comes with a 4x4 chassis and is powered by a 225 HP diesel engine. It features an eight-speed automatic transmission and fully independent suspension on all axles. The vehicle is equipped with a central wheel inflation system and a run-flat system, allowing it to continue driving even after the tires have been damaged. It can be fitted with a roof turret capable of mounting a 12.7 mm, 7.62 mm rifle, or a 40 mm grenade launcher. The vehicle's permissible weight is approximately 5.7 tons.
The KLTV offers various configurations, including standard, long-wheelbase, armored, and armed versions. The armored variant incorporates features such as bulletproof windshields, composite panels, and mine-protected flooring. It can also be equipped with an energy generator to power remote-controlled weapon systems and other electronic equipment.
The acquired vehicles will undergo specific adaptations to meet the requirements of the Polish market, including a modernized body. Over time, Rosomak S.A., the manufacturing company in Poland, intends to gradually shift component production to Poland, involving the transfer of various technologies, including body manufacturing. These vehicles will feature bulletproof protection compliant with STANAG 4569 standards and will be equipped with a roof-mounted rotating turret.
The KLTV is renowned for its versatility, being utilized in peacekeeping and counterinsurgency operations. Its run-flat tire inserts allow it to travel up to 48 km at speeds of 48 km/h even with a damaged tire. The vehicle can handle a variety of challenging terrains and temperature ranges, from 32°C to 43°C. With a top speed of 130 km/h and a range of 600 km, the KLTV is well-suited for a range of tasks, including troop transportation, patrolling, command and control, reconnaissance, and logistics operations.
