Multi-million-pound subcontract awarded to Huber+Suhner for Boxer MIV electrical component.

HUBER+SUHNER has been awarded a multi-million-pound subcontract to supply radio frequency and low-frequency cable harnesses for the British Army's Boxer Mechanised Infantry Vehicle (MIV) Programme. This subcontract aims to ensure the provision of reliable cable harnesses that meet safety and mission-critical requirements for the Boxer MIVs used by the British Army.

Huber+Suhner is scheduled to deliver the initial batch of cables by Q3 2023, including common electrical components and cables engineered to meet the stringent performance requirements specified by the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD).

Reto Bolt, Chief Operating Officer for the industry segment of Huber+Suhner, expressed the company's commitment to this project, highlighting their extensive experience in cable connectivity engineering and manufacturing.

The Boxer UK contract is expected to lead to the expansion of capacities and resources at Huber+Suhner's UK facilities over the next eight years, potentially generating a skilled workforce and additional manufacturing positions in the UK.

Colin McClean, Managing Director at RBSL, emphasized that this contract represents the latest in a series of UK supplier contracts awarded by RBSL for the Boxer programme, underlining the focus on British engineering and manufacturing expertise while promoting essential skills development across the country. McClean also extended a welcome to Huber+Suhner and expressed expectations for their collaboration as the programme progresses.

RBSL (Rheinmetall BAE Systems Land) is a UK-based joint venture business formed through collaboration between Rheinmetall and BAE Systems. The company has a history of supporting the British Army by designing and delivering various combat vehicles and providing ongoing support for British Army vehicle fleets. RBSL is a significant manufacturer of the Boxer Armoured Fighting Vehicle under the UK MoD's Mechanised Infantry Vehicle programme, in addition to its involvement in the Challenger 3 programme.

The Mechanised Infantry Vehicle (MIV) Programme, valued at £2.3 billion, was announced in November 2019 as a collaboration between the UK Ministry of Defence (MOD) and ARTEC, a joint venture involving Rheinmetall Landsysteme, Rheinmetall Defence Nederland B.V, and Krauss-Maffei Wegmann. The contract is set to deliver over 600 Boxer vehicles to the British Army. Vehicle production is subcontracted equally between RBSL and KNDS, with both companies responsible for fabricating the armoured vehicle structures, as well as assembly, integration, and testing of complete vehicles at their respective facilities in Telford and Stockport, with support from the UK supply chain.
