The journey to this momentous deployment began in July 2023 when Poland requested the first phase of a two-phase program for the Integrated Air and Missile Defense Battle Command System (IBCS). This was part of a broader strategy to modernize the country's defense infrastructure and reduce reliance on outdated systems.

By September 2023, the country started receiving crucial components of the PATRIOT system, including M903 Launch Stations and PAC-3 MSE missiles. These were part of a comprehensive package that also included twelve lower-tier air and Missile Defense Sensors (LTAMDS) and twelve Large Tactical Power Systems (LTPS) for the LTAMDS. The package was designed to offer Poland a  PATRIOT Configuration-3+ system, complete with modernized sensors and components.

Fast forward to October 5, 2023, Polish Defence Minister Mariusz Błaszczak officially announced the deployment of the PATRIOT system during a meeting with servicemen of the 3rd Air Defense Missile Brigade. Starting from October 6, soldiers will begin their duty on elements of this modern system, marking the first time Warsaw gained missile defense based on the PATRIOT system.

The PATRIOT system is not just a token addition to Poland's defense; it's a significant upgrade. The PAC-3 MSE (Patriot Advanced Capability-3 Missile Segment Enhancement) is an advanced surface-to-air guided missile defense system with an approximate range of around 35 kilometers, a substantial increase from the previous PAC-3's 20 kilometers. It is capable of intercepting a wide range of threats, from aircraft and cruise missiles to even threats from outer space such as satellites and ballistic missiles.
