During his introductory meeting with General Romeo Brawner Jr., Chief of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), held at Camp Aguinaldo in Quezon City on October 10, Lee Sang-Hwa, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Korea to the Philippines, underscored the importance of deepening defense industry cooperation. Lee emphasized the significance of building this cooperation on a foundation of longstanding trust, expressing confidence in the prospect of a more robust partnership. The South Korean diplomat also emphasized the enduring friendship between the Philippines and South Korea, expressing his aspirations for stronger collaboration among like-minded nations and a greater contribution to the Philippines' efforts to advance a free Indo-Pacific region.

South Korea has played a pivotal role in the ongoing modernization program of the Philippine Air Force, particularly in the supply of 12 FA-50PH light jet fighters that the Air Force currently deploys for air defense and various missions. Additionally, South Korean shipyards have provided the Philippine Navy with its initial two missile frigates for maritime patrols in the West Philippine Sea. Furthermore, the Philippines expects to receive two more corvettes and six offshore patrol vessels from South Korea within the next three to five years.

In response to the South Korean diplomat's visit, General Brawner expressed the AFP's deep appreciation, stating, "We are indeed very honored that you came to visit us. It underscores the significance and value you place on the AFP and our Armed Forces' relationship." He further affirmed the AFP's willingness to collaborate with allies and partners.
