The Instalaza C-90 is a 90 mm disposable, shoulder-fired, and one-man-operated rocket-propelled grenade launcher. It is a versatile weapon system with various versions designed for different operational needs. The C-90-CR and the C-90-CR-RB are equipped with hollow-charge warheads capable of penetrating 400 mm and 480 mm of armor, respectively. The C-90-CR-AM version features a shaped charge head with antipersonnel fragmentation, while the C-90-CR-FIM contains more than 1.3 kg of red phosphorus for incendiary effects. The C-90-CR-BK is designed for anti-bunker operations, featuring a tandem warhead that pierces walls before detonating inside.
The C-90-CR-RB variant, in particular, weighs 5.3 kg and has an effective range of 350 meters for point targets. It can penetrate up to 480 mm in armor steel and 1.2 meters in concrete. The weapon system also includes a two-magnification optical sight and can be fitted with a VN38-C night vision device, enhancing its operational flexibility.
Spanish instructors have already trained the first batch of Georgian operators in the use of this new weapon system. These operators will, in turn, serve as instructors for future personnel. Defense Minister Burchuladze emphasized that the acquisition of these systems would significantly enhance the defensive capabilities of the Georgian army.
This acquisition is part of Georgia's ongoing military modernization efforts, which are aligned with its aspirations to join NATO, a goal the country has had since 2008. While the exact value of the contract remains undisclosed, it confirms the purchase of disposable C90-CR-RB systems from the C90 family.
The C-90 systems have also seen broader global adoption. In 2018, Instalaza signed a €30 million framework agreement with the Estonian Ministry of Defense for the delivery of various versions of the C-90. Moreover, the weapon system has been used in the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, further attesting to its capabilities and versatility.
