Hungarian media reports suggest that the collaboration was motivated by the impressive performance of Nurol Makina's armored vehicles previously deployed by Hungarian forces. The Hungarian Minister of Defense, Kristof Szalay-Bobrovniczky, praised the quality of the Turkish firm's offerings, identifying Nurol Makina as the strategic ally for Hungary's 4X4 armored vehicle needs.
The collaboration is indicative of a growing trend where nations pool their resources in the defense field, not only for technological exchange but also for cost-effective production and strengthening of defense postures. The Turkey-Hungary partnership is a testament to how strategic alliances can advance military and diplomatic objectives.
The Ejder Yalçın 4x4, designed and manufactured by the Turkish company Nurol Makina, is an armored combat vehicle that has distinguished itself for its robustness and versatility in the field. Since its introduction in 2014, this model has been adopted to meet operational needs in the context of the Kurdish-Turkish conflict, testifying to its reliability and performance under demanding combat conditions.
The vehicle, weighing 14 tons, has compact dimensions with a length of 5.4 m and a width of 2.5 m, allowing it to maneuver with ease in various environments. Its height of 2.3 m contributes to a relatively low profile. The Ejder Yalçın 4x4 is designed to accommodate a crew of two and can transport up to nine passengers.
Crew protection is a priority reflected in the design of the Ejder Yalçın 4x4, with welded steel armor compliant with level 4 of the STANAG-4569 standard, capable of withstanding impacts from projectiles and explosives. The main armament of this vehicle includes a 7.62 mm or 12.7 mm caliber machine gun, while the secondary armament can include a 25 mm automatic cannon or a 40 mm automatic grenade launcher, providing significant firepower for a variety of missions.
The Ejder Yalçın 4x4 is powered by a Cummins diesel engine that develops 375 horsepower, an impressive power that gives it an optimal power-to-weight ratio for a vehicle of its category. This engine allows it to reach a maximum speed of 120 km/h and an operational range of 700 km, thus ensuring excellent strategic and tactical mobility.
The cooperation is expected to directly generate more than 200 jobs and will promote the development of specialized subsystems and technologies. This initiative will be in collaboration with local entities such as Szechenyi Istvan University of Győr and other firms in the Hungarian defense industry within the Raba group.
