Exercise Saber Guardian 23 takes place at various locations in Romania and serves as a platform to improve the integration of multinational combat forces. It encompasses a range of events and activities designed to enhance the collective capabilities of participating forces. These activities include vehicle road marches, medical training exercises, and river crossings, among others.

DEFENDER 23, spanning from 22 April to 23 June, showcases the ability of USAREUR-AF (U.S. Army Europe and Africa) to rapidly aggregate combat power from the continental United States in Eastern Europe. It aims to bolster the overall lethality of the NATO Alliance through long-distance fires, boost unit readiness in a complex joint and multinational environment, and leverage the capabilities of host nations to expand USAREUR-AF's operational reach.

With over 7,000 U.S. service members and more than 17,000 multinational service members from over 20 nations participating, DEFENDER 23 is a truly collaborative effort. Among the nations involved are Estonia, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Latvia, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Spain, the United Kingdom, and the United States. This diverse participation demonstrates the commitment of these nations to strengthening collective defense and fostering interoperability among allied and partner forces.
