The contract with Iveco Defence Vehicles (IDV) includes the delivery of 125 units, comprising 70 command units and 55 radio engineering units. The first deliveries have already taken place, signaling the start of a new era for the Austrian armed forces. The goal is to fulfill this contract by 2026, reflecting Austria's commitment to maintaining a well-equipped and technologically advanced defense force.
Iveco's MUV, based on the commercial Iveco Daily model, is a robust 7-ton vehicle capable of transporting a maximum payload of 4 tons. Its design allows for operation in extreme weather conditions, ranging from -32°C to +49°C. The vehicle features a permanent 4x4 transmission with lockable central, front, and rear differentials, and a power take-off equipped transfer case. An independent front torsion bar suspension system ensures stable and reliable handling, even in challenging terrains.
Flexibility is another major strength of the Iveco MUV. Its modularity allows for quick adaptations for various missions, including configurations for medical, logistics, and troop transport roles, or landing units and special forces. The use of Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) components ensures optimal reliability and functionality.
With over 18,000 units of its M40E15-WM model sold worldwide in the last 30 years, Iveco is a recognized player in the light vehicle sector. The MUV is equipped with Iveco's FPT engines, available in EURO III and EURO VI versions, and can be configured with either a six-speed manual gearbox or an eight-speed automatic system.
Safety and performance are also paramount, with the integration of systems such as the Electronic Stability Program (ESP) and the Anti-lock Braking System (ABS). The MUV's electrical design is suited for both civilian and military use, featuring 12V and 24V circuits, NATO-standard sockets, and camouflage systems.
With this acquisition, Austria takes a significant step in strengthening its defense capabilities. The country is equipping itself with equipment that reflects the modern needs of its armed forces, demonstrating its intention to remain at the forefront of military technology. The Iveco MUV, designed to meet a wide range of military operational requirements, symbolizes Austria's commitment to maintaining a well-equipped and responsive defense force, ready to meet contemporary security challenges.
