At the World Defense Show (WDS 2024) in Saudi Arabia, a highlight that caught the attention of Army Recognition is the presence of the Flyer 72 - Heavy Duty (F72-HD), a vehicle that represents an advancement in the field of systems designed for special operations. This vehicle is designed and manufactured by Flyer Defense, LLC, based in Los Angeles.

The F72-HD has been selected by the United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) for its Ground Mobility 1.1 (GMV 1.1) program, highlighting its ability to meet the demanding criteria of the U.S. military. With a width of 72 inches, it is specifically designed for internal transport by aircraft such as the CH-47, CH-53, and C-130, offering logistical flexibility for the armed forces.

This vehicle stands out for its high mobility and the ability to be configured for different crew sizes, up to nine people. Its payload capacity of 5,700 pounds and the ability to be armed quickly after deployment make it appealing for fast and efficient operations. With an adaptable communications suite, the Flyer 72 HD ensures an extended operational range and provides real-time access to critical mission information.

In terms of performance, the Flyer 72 HD boasts a top speed of 95 mph (153 kph) and a range of up to 500 miles (805 km) under certain conditions, combined with the ability to navigate challenging and varied terrains. The flexibility is further underscored by its all-terrain towing capability, a range of weapon options, and the ability to adjust its armor for increased protection.

Equipped with a 2.0-liter direct injection bi-turbo diesel engine, it produces 220 horsepower and 332 foot-pounds of torque. Its 6-speed automatic transmission with torque converter ensures adaptability and responsiveness on various terrains. The design of its chassis, with a width of 72 inches, optimizes stability and maneuverability.

The independent front and rear suspension systems, adjustable and equipped with pneumatic springs, offer remarkable all-terrain capability, complemented by modular protection adaptable to different threat levels. These technical attributes, combined with a design focused on flexibility and performance, make the Flyer 72 HD a strategic asset for special forces and military operations requiring speed, reliability, and adaptability.

WDS 2024 proved to be an ideal platform to showcase the Flyer 72 HD.
