The military aid package from Germany is set to include advanced IRIS-T SLM air defense missile systems, new Gepard self-propelled anti-aircraft gun vehicles, 80 Leopard 1A5 tanks, and additional artillery ammunition. These measures are crucial for enhancing the Ukrainian armed forces' capabilities, enabling them to conduct mobile operations effectively. Pistorius emphasized the importance of this support during a video conference with counterparts from the Ukraine Defense Contact Group, an international coalition dedicated to coordinating aid for Ukraine.

Reflecting on Germany's contributions since the onset of the conflict, Pistorius highlighted that Germany has already delivered anti-aircraft and air defense systems worth over 2.2 billion euros. Furthermore, Germany, in collaboration with France, has spearheaded a new capability coalition focusing on Integrated Air and Missile Defense, marking a significant step in international defense cooperation. A coordination conference held in Berlin last December, jointly initiated by Germany and France, saw participation from over 20 partners and allies, underscoring the broad international support for Ukraine.

Germany's commitment extends beyond air defense; the nation plays a pivotal role in various capability coalitions, encompassing artillery, maritime security, demining, information technology, armored combat vehicles, and drones. Pistorius revealed that Germany is ramping up its support, with continuous transports of military equipment, including armored combat vehicles, drones, drone defense systems, and 100 logistics vehicles, heading towards Ukraine through a logistics hub in Poland.

The minister assured that deliveries of additional ammunition would proceed immediately upon production, acknowledging the industry's capacity challenges in meeting the demand. The planned support for 2024 further includes additional IRIS-T SLM air defense missile systems, Gepard self-propelled anti-aircraft gun systems, artillery systems with over 230,000 rounds of ammunition, more than 80 Leopard 1A5 main battle tanks, armored personnel carriers, engineer tanks, bridge-laying tanks, 450 protected vehicles, mine clearance systems, drones, radar systems, and reconnaissance systems.

Germany's augmented military aid to Ukraine in 2024 represents a robust effort to support the country's defense against Russian aggression, highlighting the international community's solidarity and commitment to Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
